Multiagent Systems
Research Group
The Multiagent Systems Research Group is concerned with designing, analyzing and implementing sophisticated AI systems consisting of multiple agents. Special focus is on coordination of self-interested agents in open systems. In this endeavor, they use techniques from game theory and other fields of microeconomics, and extend those theories with normative models of bounded rationality, such as limited computation and communication. This work has also led them to develop new techniques for single agent resource-bounded reasoning, constraint satisfaction and machine learning.
Multi-Agent Systems
Laboratory
The Multi-Agent Systems Laboratory is part of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and is concerned with the development and analysis of sophisticated Artificial Intelligence problem-solving and control architectures for both single-agent and multiple-agent systems.
NARS NARS (Non-Axiomatic Reasoning System) is an intelligent reasoning system. It can answer questions according to the knowledge originally provided by the user. What makes it different from conventional reasoning systems is its ability to learn from its experiences and to work with insufficient knowledge and resources.
Open Agent
Architecture
The goal of this ongoing project is to develop an open agent architecture and accompanying user interface for networked desktop and handheld machines. Partial listing of OAA-Based Projects is included from Automated Office to Speech Recognition over the Web.
OSCAR Project The OSCAR Project is funded in part by the National Science Foundation. The goal of the OSCAR Project is the formulation of a general theory of rationality and its implementation in an artificial rational agent. The project is predicated on the view that philosophy has an essential role to play in artificial intelligence. We want artificial agents to draw rational conclusions and make rational decisions. The current version of OSCAR can be downloaded, along with the OSCAR Manual.
Plangent Plangent  is an intelligent agent system that performs tasks for human users. The plangent agents have the mobile and planning facility, and they can move around the network, think what is the best suited action on that occasion, and act by themselves. This software is developed at Systems and Software Research Laboratories, R&D Center, Toshiba Corporation Japan.
Project Ariadne Project Ariadne is developing tools to construct wrappers that make web sources look like databases and are developing the mediator technology required to dynamically and efficiently answer queries using these sources. The resulting system will make it fast and cheap to build new applications from existing web sources. The mediator and wrapper approach also make it easy to maintain these applications and incorporate new sources as they become available.
Project Aristotle Project Aristotle - Automated Categorization of Web Resources. This is an extensive site listing projects, research, products and services available throughout the world for the automated categorization of Web resources.
