The Secret Agent Man

Don Barker, ColumnistTake Aim with BullsEye - A Complete Solution to Information Overload
By Don Barker

As a highly successful operative, I have come to truly appreciate the skill of a talented marksman, especially when the target is fast and devious. And there is not a faster, or more devious, prey than the elusive information on the Web. The astronomical growth in the quantity and type of data on the Web has given rise to heighten user expectations while, at the same time, making a single solution to information overload a fading dream.

For almost two decades, pundits have been predicting that intelligent agents would tame the information revolution and banish information overload forever. Unfortunately, these optimistic forecasters failed to foresee the enormous challenges that would be posed by the emergence of a truly multi-faceted and chaotic Web. Despite the appearance of information on almost every conceivable topic, the lack of structure and uniformity on the Web has forced agent and bot vendors to focus on very narrow categories of information retrieval and analysis. (For details on just how desperate the search situation on the Web has become, see Jesse Berst’s column at http://www.zdnet.com/anchordesk/story/story_2432.html).

As a consequence, the industry has produced an enormous number of heterogeneous products that are designed for highly specialized tasks, such as tracking stocks, news updates, comparative shopping, and finding people. So many specialized agents and bots have been introduced that entire classifications have evolved, including Stock Bots, News Bots, Shopping Bots, and Search Bots (see /search/). Although these product categories contain many useful programs to improve Web navigation, they also clearly indicate the lack of a single complete solution for overburdened knowledge workers. belogo.gif (2516 bytes)

Fortunately, that has all changed with the recent introduction of BullsEye from IntelliSeek Inc. (http://www.intelliseek.com/). BullsEye is highly innovative and revolutionary software package that defies traditional classification schemes because it offers the first comprehensive solution to information overload. BullsEye combines intelligent agents and bots from almost every category into a single easy-to-use interface that handles every aspect of searching, analyzing, organizing, reporting, and tracking information.

BullsEye puts at your disposal a vast array of agents to hunt down, manage, and track almost every type of information available on the Web. What’s more, it provides you with the latest, most relevant, and extensive information on an as need basis. This digital marksman fundamentally changes the game of hide and seek in cyberspace. While it might have been safe to ignore the fanfare and whoopla of the countless niche market intelligent agents and bots in the past, BullsEye is one you can’t afford to miss.
