are three simple ways of working with Mister Pix: retrieving images from a specific
site, from a keyword search, or from newsgroups. The images you want are retrieved
from the Web and displayed as thumbnails in an image gallery so you can view, select,
delete and organize your new image library with a minimum of effort.
If you want to grab all the images from a particularly interesting Web site, then use
the URL Scan. It's a quick and easy solution, that saves you from clicking through
multiple pages to save each image individually. In the search settings, you decide how
many links should be followed on the chosen site, and whether Mister Pix should also
retrieve images from external sites.
The WWW Search, that launches a keyword search on multiple search engines and then
downloads images from the pages found, is a powerful solution but one that should be
used with care, to ensure that the downloaded images are what you really want. Test
the keyword search query in the selected engines first, to make sure that it returns a
list of relevant sites. Then decide how far you want Mister Pix to crawl - as it
follows links away from the initial search result, the relevancy is often reduced. It
is possible to parameter the search engines that are to be used, as well as the
crawling depth. Once you've done a few test runs, the WWW Search could well be an
interesting option for large-scale downloading.
The third option is to retrieve images from specific newsgroups, and includes the
possibility of posting images to one or more newsgroups. For all types of search, you
are able to specify a minimum image size, to limit retrieval to certain formats
(including sound and/or video files) and to exclude certain URLs from searches. So
Mister Pix is a thorough tool that offers a range of methods for building an image
library. It should be noted that the trial version, while containing all the features
of the full version, retrieves images in black and white only.
